Government Documents

The Anoka County Library has been a part of the Federal Depository Library Program since 1971. The FDLP partners with libraries nationwide to provide the American public with free and equal access to government information.

As a selective depository, the Library selects only a small percentage of all federal government documents produced. While the Library receives some items in tangible form, most are available digitally, accessible through the Library’s online catalog via electronic links. These items can be searched by title, subject, named author, or publishing government agency. If you need assistance in locating government documents, please ask at a service desk.

Federal agencies produce materials on a wide range of topics, in print and digitally. Many of the most commonly requested items can be found at Govinfo, which provides free access to official publications from all three branches of the Federal Government, or USA.gov, the U.S Government’s official portal, including links to every federal agency and to state, local, and tribal governments.

Some other popular online sites for accessing official federal government information are:

Ben’s Guide to U.S Government for Kids, a fun and educational introduction to how the U.S Government works, designed for students, parents, and teachers.

Healthfinder.gov, one of the best places to find government-related health and human services information on the Web, with more than 1500 health-related organizations represented.
