Project Summary

Project Background/Description
Anoka County, in partnership with the City of Coon Rapids, is preparing plans for replacing and updating the existing signal system at the intersection of Coon Rapids Boulevard (CSAH 1) and Blackfoot Street, with anticipated construction in 2022. Anoka County applied for and received Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding for the replacement and updating of the signal.

Project Goals
Provided below are the project goals being considered during the design and construction phase of this project:

  • Replace the old signal system with a new system, which will include flashing yellow arrows and protected permissive left turns.
  • Improve emergency response times to serve the community

Below is an overview of the project schedule identifying key milestones in the process:

  • HSIP Funding Application Submitted – 2018
  • Final Design – Summer / Fall 2021
  • Construction – Summer 2022
