Lexington Avenue (CSAH 17) Turn Lane Additions - Pheasant Ridge Drive to 112th Avenue

Project Summary

Project Background / Description
As part of Phase II of the 2022 Overlay Program, Anoka County is constructing dedicated right turn lanes on Lexington Avenue (CSAH 17) from Pheasant Ridge Drive to 112th Avenue, in the City of Blaine.  Lexington Avenue is an important north-south arterial and these improvements will increase the capacity of the roadway, while minimizing the impacts to the adjacent properties.  The improvements will enhance safety within the corridor by providing separation of the thru-traffic and turning vehicles.   The intersections at 109th Avenue (CSAH 12) and 111th Avenue currently do not have separate right turn lanes.

The outside footprint of the roadway will stay the same with these improvements; the thru lanes for Lexington Avenue will be shifted inward to create room for the right turn lanes on the outside, and the roadway will be expanded into the existing depressed median to compensate.

Project Goals
Provided below are the project goals being considered during the design and construction phase of this project:

  • Improve safety and efficiency by creating dedicated right and left turn lanes, separate from the thru lanes
  • Develop a financially responsible design that minimizes right-of-way and environmental resource impacts

Layout – Current Design

Below is an overview of the project schedule identifying key milestones in the process:

  • Develop Geometric Layout – November 2021
  • Preliminary Design – March 2022
  • Final Design – May 2022
  • Construction – Summer or Early Fall 2022
