Write On!

Calling all teens who live in or attend school in Anoka County! Anoka County Library’s 8th annual Write On! Teen Short Story contest will be accepting submissions from teens from April 1 – April 30, 2023. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced in three different grade categories (6-8, 9-10, 11-12) in June. 

Winning entries will also be compiled and published on the Library’s website and as an ebook on MN Writes MN Reads. This contest is sponsored by the Friends of the Anoka County Library.

How to enter: 

  • Between April 1-30, 2023, you can submit your story by filling out the form and attaching a copy of your story at this link.
  • You will receive an email confirmation after you have submitted the application. Finalists will be emailed after the close of the contest and are encouraged to attend the celebration that will be scheduled for a later date.

 

Guidelines: 

  • Writers may submit only one story per year
  • Stories must be written by only one writer.
  • Writers must be in grades 6-12, living in or attending school in Anoka County.
  • Previously submitted or published stories will not be accepted.
  • Story must be 1300-3000 words in length.
  • Any topic is permitted provided the content is suitable for teens.
  • Fan fiction, stories in verse, and alternate forms are accepted. Non-fiction essays will not be accepted.
  • Stories will be judged based on the same criteria used by the Minnesota Book Awards: the quality of the writing, originality, and audience appeal.
