Happy Spring from the Anoka County SHIP Team!

We hope you all had a chance to start enjoying the recent warmer temps, whether it’s been getting outside for some movement, planning your garden, or simply spending time outdoors in the sunshine. Our team has been looking forward to getting out and meeting with all our partners and supporting their work to help everyone in Anoka County have opportunities for physical activity, access to healthy food, mental well-being, and reduced tobacco use.

Anoka County SHIP Success Story: Shashe Grocery

Shashe Grocery is a small grocery market in Spring Lake Park. They received a SHIP Community Partner Award in 2022 that improved the healthy food environment for the East African community in Anoka County. Read their success story here.

American Lung Association Educates Parents and Students at Conference Night

In March 2023, the American Lung Association in partnership with Anoka County SHIP presented a booth at Fridley Middle School’s parent conference night on vaping awareness to educate parents and students about he dangers of using e-cigarette products. The booth displayed the different types of e-cigarette devices and flavors showing how similar they looked to normal candy and school supplies. Cessation materials were also given out to students who were interested in quitting. The event was very well received and it was educational for Fridley Middle School parents and students.

Chemical Heath Collaborative Resource Event

The Anoka County Chemical Health Collaborative welcomes the community to attend an educational gathering on substance abuse and community wellness. Prevention and assistance resources will be available.

April 3-9 proclaimed Public Health Week in the State of Minnesota.

This year’s theme is “Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health”. Our cultures have always shaped our health. We learn from the communities we're born in and that we build together. For this NPHW, we look to community leaders as our health leaders. We celebrate the unique and joyful ways different cultures focus on health. And we look to how we can learn from each other, with humility and openness. For more information check out the website.
