Anoka County Commissioner Scott Schulte

Anoka County Government Center

2100 Third Ave.

Anoka, MN 55303-5024

Commissioner Schulte has served on the Anoka County Board of Commissioners since 2013. He represents portions of Andover, Anoka, and Coon Rapids.

Commissioner Schulte grew up in Coon Rapids, went to grade school at Epiphany Catholic School and graduated from Blaine Senior High School in 1979. After high school, Commissioner Schulte studied auto mechanics at Dunwoody College of Technology for two years. He spent another two years at Anoka Technical College learning to become a mechanic after graduating from Dunwoody. Commissioner Schulte is the owner of Hi-Ten Service in Coon Rapids, which his family has owned and operated since 1958.

Commissioner Schulte lives in Coon Rapids with his wife, Jan. They have five children and nine grandchildren.

In addition to his role on the Anoka County Board, Commissioner Schulte served on the Coon Rapids City Council for a dozen years as mayor pro tem and councilman at large. Commissioner Schulte is a member of the Joint Law Enforcement Council and the Anoka County Canvassing Board. He’s on the Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Advisory Board and the Law Library Board of Trustees. Commissioner Schulte is currently president of the Association of Minnesota Counties.

Additionally, Commissioner Schulte is a member of the Coon Rapids Crime Prevention Association, and he’s the president of the Coon Rapids Housing Improvement Foundation. He was past president of the Coon Rapids Rotary Club, and he’s been a member of the Coon Rapids Lions Club.

Commissioner Schulte is involved in his community in other capacities, as well. He sponsors local sports teams, is longtime member at Epiphany Church in Coon Rapids — which his parents helped found along with Father Bernard Reiser — and his business affords him the opportunity to connect with residents throughout the area.

Commissioner Schulte believes a good county commissioner is versatile, passionate, and is a person who can make decisions that benefit the most citizens possible. He also believes in the “leave it better than you found it,” adage, a value that was instilled in him by his parents and Father Reiser. What initially drew Commissioner Schulte into public service was seeing the degradation of Coon Rapids Boulevard in the 1990s, and he knew that he wanted to be a part of making it a vibrant commercial hub once again.

Some of the top priorities for Commissioner Schulte revolve around Anoka County transportation, infrastructure and workforce. He says congestion and safety along highways 10 and 65 in the county needs to be addressed, and he’d like to see many more Anoka County residents staying in the county to work, rather than driving to neighboring counties for employment.

When Commissioner Schulte has some time to relax, he enjoys boating and spending time at his cabin with family and friends. He’s also a racing fan; Commissioner Schulte spent more than two decades racing dirt track cars in the five-state area and Florida.
