Any individual performing body art without a valid license is guilty of a gross misdemeanor. Licensure can be obtained through the Minnesota Department of Health. There are two ways to obtain licensure: through reciprocity with the following states; Oregon, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Missouri or by completing an apprenticeship under the supervision of a licensed MN body artist. While under apprenticeship, a Temporary Body Art Technician license MUST be obtained.
